Sulcata's come from the southern Sahara Desert region of Africa. They are cute as hatchlings but can quickly grow to weigh 50 lbs. in less than five years. Living in an apartment with a sulcata is not a wise choice. These tortoises need lots of room and will eventually need a backyard with a secure enclosure. They have been known to walk through chain-link fences and walls. So be beware when you buy one of these cuties...they are eating machines and grow quickly.

Sulcata's are the 3rd largest tortoise in the world,they to grow 36" in length and over 200 lbs. Only the Galapagos and the Aldabra are bigger.
